Our Museum
Founded more than 60 years ago, the East Haddam Historical Society Museum has a permanent 7,000 square foot home on Rt. 82, close by the River Rd. turnoff for Gillette's Castle. The nine-room museum features the history of the town and its villages.
Special exhibits include ones on the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, the Moodus Drum and Fife Corps, the Moodus Cotton Mills, the Boardman Silver Works, the Moodus summer resorts, actor William Gillette, and artists Langdon Kihn, Bill Tyner, and Heinz Warneke, all supplemented by historic maps, photographs, and documents. Many generations of Native Americans occupied the land as well. Their story is part of the museum's ongoing mission. The time period 1750 to the present is well-covered in the Historical Society's exhibits.
